Driver arrested at DUI checkpoint in Chula Vista

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) —  One person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol at a checkpoint in Chula Vista on Saturday night, authorities said.

According to the Chula Vista Police Department, officers conducted the roadblock in the 1300 block of East 30th Street from 6 p.m. to midnight.

A total of 2,016 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint and 1,279 vehicles were screened. Authorities said two motorists conducted field sobriety tests, and one driver was arrested for a suspected DUI.

Additionally, 19 drivers were cited for driving without a license or with a suspended license, and another 11 citations were issued for reasons not provided.

“DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes,” authorities noted in a press release. “The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.”…
