Man sentenced to prison for murder of ex-girlfriend at Otay Mesa motel

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A 48-year-old man convicted of murdering his former girlfriend was sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.

Eduardo Magana was found guilty of second-degree murder in November for the killing of 33-year-old Alexis Berenice Guadarrama Orozco, whose body has never been located.

According to prosecutors, Magana met Guadarrama at the Star Motel in Otay Mesa on July 15, 2023. In the early hours of July 16, surveillance video captured Magana placing what appeared to be a large, heavy object into the trunk of his car. Around the same time, communication from Guadarrama to her family and friends suddenly stopped, investigators said.

Magana was arrested three days later in Bell Gardens, near Los Angeles. Despite extensive searches, Guadarrama’s body has not been recovered and is believed to be somewhere in Southern California…
