EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – An embattled former governor of Chihuahua who was extradited from the United States in 2022 to face state corruption charges has been rearrested.
Cesar Duarte Jaquez is now facing federal money laundering charges in connection with the use of public funds for personal benefit though the use of the national banking system, the Mexican Attorney General’s Office said on Monday.

Duarte was arrested at 2:43 p.m. at a home in the Jardines de San Francisco neighborhood in Chihuahua City and was later flown to the maximum security Altiplano federal prison in Mexico City, according to documents filed Monday in the Public Safety Ministry.
The State of Chihuahua filed conspiracy and illegal enrichment/embezzlement charges against Duarte in 2020 and solicited his extradition from the United States through Mexico’s Foreign Minister. A federal judge in Florida granted the extradition two years later…
