Big changes to Balboa Park’s free tram service amid paid parking | On the Move

SAN DIEGO — Paid parking is coming to San Diego’s beloved Balboa Park in early January, but the city is rolling out an expanded free tram service that could help visitors and workers save both time and money.

Beginning January 5, the same day paid parking launches, the Balboa Park tram will run every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., year-round. Currently, trams run every 10 to 15 minutes from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with shorter hours in the fall and winter.

To get a closer look at the service, we hopped on at the Inspiration Point parking lot, where parking will remain free for the first three hours. After that, the cost will be $5 per day for San Diego residents and $10 for non-residents…
