Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Mission Valley East

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle Friday in Mission Valley East, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The collision happened at the intersection of Camino De La Reina and Qualcomm Way. Police say a 41-year-old man was driving a 2007 Honda Accord westbound on Camino De La Reina in the far left lane as he approached the intersection.

At the same time, a 40-year-old man was walking in the west crosswalk of Qualcomm Way but entered the roadway against a red light, police said. The driver had a green light when the vehicle entered the intersection and struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian suffered an open fracture to his left leg, along with facial lacerations and abrasions. Police say his injuries are serious but not considered life-threatening.

Investigators confirmed alcohol was not a factor in the collision. SDPD’s Traffic Division is handling the investigation…
