SAN DIEGO — Lawyers for legal aid groups and individuals seeking citizenship are reporting across the country, including in San Diego, that naturalization interviews and “oath ceremonies” are being canceled, sometimes at the last moment.
The oath-taking ceremony occurs at the very end of the process, after the applicants’ interview and USCIS approves the application. It’s often an emotional occasion, as newly declared citizens are able to come together and take photographs with their families to celebrate a new chapter in their lives.
