Lack of funding could force Tijuana’s oldest migrant shelter to close

SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — Casa del Migrante, Tijuana’s oldest migrant shelter, is in danger of closing by the end of April.

Director Lorenzo Chaidez said funding has been cut by 40 percent as contributions and donations from north of the border have virtually stopped.

“All areas, where we used to get support from organizations, has diminished drastically,” he said. “At the same time, our expenses have gone up.”
