SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Authorities are investigating a medical emergency that occurred Friday morning near the transition from State Route 163 southbound to Interstate 5, near Balboa Park.
According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded around 7:29 a.m. after an unidentified man was found lying near a fence at the top of an embankment in the area. The man had suffered a medical emergency and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death has not yet been determined. A toxicology report is pending through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, which is also responsible for notifying the man’s next of kin. His identity is being withheld until that process is complete.
