ESCONDIDO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A married couple was swept into Lake Hodges by floodwaters on New Year’s morning, with the wife needing to be rescued by helicopter.
Deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to a water emergency near Lake Hodges at around 8:10 a.m. on Thursday. According to SMSS, a man reported that he and his wife had been out for a walk near the lake.
The couple reportedly entered the lake grounds at a low-water crossing area near the roadway. When the two returned to the same spot about an hour later, they discovered rain had flooded the area, and the water at the crossing was flowing swiftly toward the lake.
