Police say man drove truck into California home with wife inside

San Diego, California – A quiet Bay Park neighborhood became the scene of a grim and chaotic tragedy this week after police say a man crashed his pickup truck into his own home, ignited a fire, and killed his wife — despite a restraining order that was meant to keep her safe.

The San Diego Police Department on Tuesday identified the victim as Monica Coates, 61, and the suspect as her husband, 62-year-old Stephen Coates. The incident unfolded Monday morning at a residence on Dakota Drive near Fontana Avenue in San Diego’s Bay Park neighborhood.

According to police, Monica Coates called 911 at 7:38 a.m. to report that her husband had crashed his pickup truck into their home. Multiple neighbors also called emergency services, with one reporting screams coming from inside the house after the collision…
