SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A head-on collision in San Diego’s Mountain View neighborhood left three people seriously injured on New Year’s Day, including one man with life-threatening injuries, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The crash happened Thursday evening on the 3800 block of Ocean View Boulevard. Police say a 33-year-old man driving a Volkswagen Passat westbound crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a Kia Soul driven by a 61-year-old woman.

The woman’s passenger, a 63-year-old female, suffered a broken femur. The driver of the Kia reportedly sustained a leg injury. The 33-year-old driver of the Volkswagen was taken to a hospital with internal injuries that police say are considered life-threatening.
Authorities say alcohol was a factor in the collision. SDPD’s Traffic Division is handling the investigation.
