(FOX 5/KUSI) — A man who was walking on northbound Interstate 5 in San Diego was fatally struck by a vehicle early New Year’s Eve morning.
The unidentified pedestrian was within the traffic lanes of northbound I-5, south of Sassafras Street in San Diego’s Middletown (Midtown) neighborhood, when he was hit by a Toyota Prius, according to California Highway Patrol. It happened around 6:40 a.m. on Wednesday.
Three injured in head-on collision, DUI suspected
Authorities said the driver of the Prius stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. A toxicology report is pending for the pedestrian through the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine whether drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors in the collision.
The name of the man who died is being withheld pending family notification. CHP is investigating the cause and sequence of events leading up to the crash…
