POWAY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A driver was hospitalized Friday morning after a crash involving a GMC Hummer and a fuel tanker truck on State Route 67 in Poway, authorities said.

Deputies with the Poway Sheriff’s Station responded around 5:30 a.m. to reports of a serious injury collision near the intersection of SR-67 and Ellie Lane.
Investigators say the driver of a GMC Hummer was traveling southbound on SR-67 when the vehicle lost control, crossed the center median and entered oncoming traffic. The Hummer then collided with a fuel tanker truck.

The Hummer’s driver was taken to a hospital with a head injury. The driver of the fuel tanker truck reported pain but did not require medical treatment, according to the sheriff’s office.
County Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) teams were called to the scene after a minor fuel leak was discovered from the tractor portion of the tanker truck. Officials emphasized the leak did not involve the tanker trailer itself and was quickly contained, with no further environmental impact reported…
