San Diego Braces for Rainy Week Ahead with Possible Snow in San Bernardino Mountains

San Diegans are in for a wet start to the week, as the National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego predicts “an increasing chance of more moderate rainfall” later this afternoon and into the evening, with showers continuing through Wednesday, especially in the San Bernardino Mountains, where up to 2 inches of rain could fall. Places at higher elevations, such as Big Bear, may see a dusting to an inch of snowfall, with more accumulation at higher elevations. Maximum wind gusts, potentially approaching 50 mph, are also expected, especially through the Apple/Lucerne Valleys and when passing through the Cajon and Banning passes, which might affect travel, according to the National Weather Service.

Alongside the rain, the NWS’ Area Forecast Discussion noted a positively-tilted trough continuing to influence the region’s weather, bringing cooler temperatures and the possibility for scattered light showers through Wednesday, with up to 0.5 inches of additional rain possible in some areas and strong gusty winds, but generally staying below Wind Advisory criteria.

Looking ahead, the forecast indicates a slight warming trend as a high-pressure system is expected to return later in the week; however, uncertainties remain in the models, and the situation continues to be closely monitored for any changes. Nonetheless, by Thursday and into the coming weekend, the region is expected to experience drier conditions and warmer temperatures, potentially leading to mild Santa Ana conditions by Saturday evening…
