(FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego Police Department unveiled a new high-tech crime-fighting hub that officials say is already helping officers catch criminals faster and stay safer on the job.
The Real Time Operations Center, located inside SDPD headquarters, has been in use since July. The center allows officers to track unfolding incidents using license plate readers, drones with live-streaming capabilities and the department’s helicopter. Police leaders say the goal is to provide immediate intelligence that helps officers respond within minutes of a crime.
“Today we are able to stay a step ahead of crime,” San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl said during an inside look of the center on Wednesday.
