Goodwill reveals plans for 78 new stores in 2026 with drastic makeover for ‘dark, dirty store’

THRIFT store giant Goodwill is working to refresh its image, unveiling plans to debut at least 78 spots with modern makeovers.

Fans of the Maryland-based discount retailer can expect to see dozens of brand new, modern stores pop up as well as a handful of locations renovated in the new year.

Founded in 1902, Goodwill has grown into arguably one of the most popular thrift stores in the world, well known for not only its treasure hunt feel and affordable gems, but also – less appealingly – being dim and disorganized.

With a US footprint of 3,300 locations or so, the thrift giant is working to modernize both new and old stores as part of its three-pronged overhaul in 2026 to shift consumers’ perception of Goodwill…
