Investigation Launched After San Diego Police Officer Shoots Suspect During Balboa Park Chase

An investigation is currently underway following a police shooting in San Diego’s Balboa Park. According to the Hoodline, the incident involved a San Diego Police Department officer and a male suspect on December 16, 2025, near 2900 Balboa Drive.

Per the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, the sequence of events began when an adult male, riding a bicycle, evaded police, resulting in a chase that carried over from bike to foot through the park up onto a hillside, during which the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm at the officers, which led an officer to shoot the suspect multiple times. The San Diego Police Department stated that the officer involved was not injured in the confrontation.

The suspect, who sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive, was given immediate medical aid by the officers before being taken to a hospital. Investigators recovered a firearm from the scene.
