Community celebrates life of El Capitan senior who made lasting impact through achievements

There was an incredible amount of love, and lots of tears, inside a packed Pavilion hall at the Fairgrounds last Sunday, Jan. 25, as hundreds of people attended the Celebration of Life service in honor and memory of Violette Walker.

The 18-year-old El Capitan High School senior passed away on Jan. 2 following a skiing accident in late December.

At the entrance to the Pavilion, memorabilia of Violette’s life and her many endeavors were on display. Once inside, family members, friends, fellow students and residents of all walks of life — all of whom were touched in some way by Violette — watched a slideshow that featured images of her enjoying life while local performing artist Jamie Byous performed a solemn musical tribute of her favorite country songs.

In an opening presentation, Sarah Helton, Violette’s aunt, described her niece as a “remarkable young woman whose time with us was far too short, but whose impact will last for years to come.”…
