The Ramona killing that stunned California’s firefighting community is back in court this week, as the woman accused of murdering Cal Fire Captain Rebecca “Becky” Marodi heads into a pivotal preliminary hearing in San Diego Superior Court.
Prosecutors say 53-year-old Yolanda Marodi is the one seen on surveillance footage tied to the Feb. 17, 2025 slaying at the couple’s Ramona home. She has been held without bail since her arrest in Mexicali and her subsequent extradition to the United States. After pleading not guilty at arraignment, she now faces a hearing that will determine whether there is enough evidence to send the case to trial.
According to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, Marodi was arrested in Mexico and charged with murder after Mexican agents found her near a hotel in Mexicali and turned her over to U.S. Marshals. CBS 8 reports the preliminary hearing has been scheduled at the county courthouse, where prosecutors are expected to lay out surveillance and other evidence for the judge. The DA’s office has said Marodi faces a first-degree murder charge and, if convicted, could receive a sentence of 25 years to life.

Suspect’s Criminal History And Custody
Court records and news accounts show that Marodi, who has also been identified as Yolanda Olejniczak in earlier filings, previously pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in a 2000 killing in San Bernardino County.
