LA MESA, Calif. — A La Mesa doctor has been publicly reprimanded for prescribing a medication to a patient with a known allergy, resulting in the patient’s death.
According to Medical Board Documents, Dat William Nguyen, M.D was treating a 72-year-old woman at the former Alvarado Medical Center in La Mesa for shortness of breath. The woman, who lived with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and schizophrenia, arrived at the hospital on October 19, 2022.
Dr. Nguyen tried to order the medication Rocephin to help treat the woman’s pneumonia. A medical warning flashed when Dr. Nguyen tried to administer the medication, alerting him that the patient was allergic to it…
