Kyle the Orange Shelter cat didn’t just survive-he graduated, and his party was big enough to make the whole internet cry.
He arrived at San Diego Humane Society’s Escondido Campus last summer after surviving a coyote attack, battered but alive and very, very lucky. Because he’d been bitten, Kyle had to do something most cats (and humans) would absolutely fail at: a full 6-month rabies quarantine. No adoption events. No roaming the shelter freely. Just time, monitoring, and the hope that the worst was truly behind him.
We take celebrations VERY seriously around here. So when something major happens to one of our animals, well … it calls for an all-out party. Kyle came to us last summer after surviving a coyote attack. Because he was bitten, he had to complete a full six-month rabies quarantine before he could be cleared for adoption. Six months is a long time to wait … but Kyle didn’t do it alone. During his quarantine, our incredible staff set Kyle up in a cozy office space, where he was cared for daily by a small team of rabies-vaccinated staff who made sure his days were filled with enrichment, window time, snacks, conversations (so many conversations) and the occasional indoor “walk” in his stroller. He quickly made it clear that he enjoys visitors, Churu treats and voicing his opinions – especially when he’s hungry. So when Kyle officially passed quarantine, our Escondido Campus staff went all out with a graduation party. There were banners. Party hats. Stickers. Kyle trivia. Cupcakes featuring Kyle’s very handsome face. And yes, a graduation cap and gown. #orangecat#cutecat#sweetcatstory#catadoption…
