An executive golf course in San Diego has closed for extensive sewer line work and some fear it may never reopen.
Tecolote Canyon Golf Course is a 3,161-yard, 18-hole layout designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and Sam Snead. It had been playing as a nine-hole course for some time, with everyone playing Nos. 1 through 5 and then 15 through 18. Golfers could then play them all again if they wanted to get 18 holes in.
The course is in a canyon due east inland from the Pacific Beach area and not far from downtown San Diego.
On Wednesday, the City of San Diego posted an update that said: “Due to Phase 2 of construction and the expiration of the City’s lease with the course’s previous operator, all 18 holes are now closed. The driving range will remain open until Sunday, Feb. 15. Previously, work was only partially impacting course operations and it was open under a 9-hole layout. The construction impacts give the City the opportunity to revisit the management of this asset, improve operations, better align with market value and enhance long-term revenue and public benefit.”…
