Navy police officer in court for I-8 crash that killed 2, including La Mesa police officer

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The Navy police officer who was arrested for his role in a crash that killed a La Mesa police officer and a 19-year-old man on Interstate 8 last October appeared in court Tuesday morning for a readiness conference.

Antonio Alcantar, 38, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at the time of the deadly crash, which happened on Oct. 20, 2025.

Late that night, La Mesa Police Officer Lauren Craven, 25, was driving back to La Mesa from the San Diego Central Jail when she stopped to help at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on eastbound I-8 near Fairmount Avenue, authorities said…
