Big Oven Pizza in Kearny Mesa has been shot up three separate times this month, leaving shattered glass, boarded doors and thousands of dollars in damage but, the owner says, no injuries. The late-night gunfire has staff on edge, neighbors rattled and a once-routine strip along Shawline Street suddenly looking like a crime scene. The small business has already cut its hours while it waits for detectives to figure out who keeps opening fire on the storefront.
Three shootings in one week
Owner Ralph Kreidly told 10News the first gunfire hit just after 10:30 p.m. on a Sunday, followed by another burst about 15 minutes later. He said the shop was hit again late that Thursday, and that police were called the next day after he reported that two rounds had been fired. Kreidly told the outlet the first round of repairs alone ran about $2,600, and he has since installed cameras and moved closing time up so employees are out by 8 p.m.
Bullet-riddled window caught on camera
Surveillance video from inside the restaurant shows bullets punching through the front windows and shattering the glass door, according to FOX5 San Diego. Officers later found two to three projectile impacts at the scene. Police also recovered video that appears to show a white pickup heading south on Shawline Street as shots were fired, though detectives have not confirmed whether that truck is actually tied to the shootings. As part of the case, authorities filed a report for discharging a firearm at an unoccupied dwelling.
Detectives hunt for leads, ask public for help
Eastern Division detectives with the San Diego Police Department have been assigned to the case and are working leads that have not been made public, 10News reported. Investigators are collecting surveillance video and other physical evidence and are asking anyone who noticed suspicious activity in the area to call the SDPD non-emergency line at 619-531-2000 or reach out to Crime Stoppers. As of the latest reports, police have not released any suspect description and no arrests have been announced.
