Box truck carrying solar panels catches fire on I-15 in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A box truck carrying a shipment of solar panels caught fire on southbound Interstate 15 in-between Normal Heights and Kensington on Friday morning, authorities reported.

According to a Sig Alert from California Highway Patrol, the incident happened just before 7 a.m. in the area north of Adams Avenue.

Officials noted that the fire was coming from the truck’s engine compartment, with “huge flames and lots of smoke” visible.

CHP initially reported that the impacted area was heavily congested due to the vehicle fire, but noted in an update that vehicle fire was contained to the right shoulder of the roadway. The blaze has since been put out.

No injuries were reported. No further details were immediately released.
