An’s Gelato Expanding To North County San Diego’s Iconic ‘Top Gun House,’ Taking Over Former High-Pie Space Near Oceanside Pier

One of San Diego’s most celebrated dessert brands is preparing to land at one of the region’s most recognizable coastal landmarks. An’s Gelato will open a new location inside the historic “Top Gun House,” the small Victorian cottage just steps from the Oceanside Pier that famously appeared in the 1986 film.

The upcoming gelato shop will take over the approximately 500-square-foot Graves House space previously occupied by High-Pie, the whimsical hand-pie concept that operated there from 2022 until its closure earlier this year. The new outpost from the team behind An’s Dry Cleaning Gelato is expected to open as early as May, bringing small-batch Italian-style gelato to one of the most photographed food locations in North County San Diego.

While the company has not yet revealed the official theme of the Oceanside shop, the concept is widely expected to incorporate nods to the building’s pop-culture legacy. Given An’s track record of tailoring each location’s identity to the history of the space it occupies, a playful aviation or Top Gun-inspired motif – potentially including specialty flavors referencing characters, aircraft, or famous scenes from the film – would be a fitting evolution for the seaside cottage…
