SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A motorcyclist was killed Thursday night in a crash involving a car on Interstate 5 in San Diego, according to California Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred around 9:45 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-5, just south of J Street. Authorities say a red and white Suzuki GSX-R600 motorcycle and a BMW 320i were both traveling northbound when the incident unfolded.
Investigators reported that the motorcyclist was allegedly observed riding recklessly prior to the crash. The rider lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected onto the roadway. Moments later, the driver of the BMW was unable to avoid the fallen rider and struck them.

The motorcyclist suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the crash, two left lanes of northbound I-5 were temporarily closed for several hours to allow for investigation and cleanup. Two lanes remained open to traffic during that time. All lanes were reopened around 1:38 a.m. Friday…
