SF Zoo targeted in possible ‘Swatting’ incident

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Staff and guests at the San Francisco Zoo were temporarily sheltering in place Monday after the Zoo received an unsubstantiated threat from an anonymous caller. Zoo officials that the call came in around 2:50 p.m.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, officers received a call about a person with a gun. When police arrived at the Zoo, they searched the area for the armed subject but were not successful.

“The search did not locate a subject and the shelter in place was quickly lifted,” SFPD wrote in an email to KRON4 just before 4:30 p.m.

The Zoo said it was working with SFPD to determine the legitimacy of the phoned-in threat. As of around 3 p.m., there were between 400 and 500 guests sheltering in place temporarily in secure buildings while police conducted a thorough sweep…
