Two Bay Area women swept into ocean while sleeping on California coast die after rescue

Two young Bay Area women died after being swept into the ocean by a rising tide while apparently sleeping near a beach access point on the Santa Cruz County coast, authorities said.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office identified the women as Harshita Nair, 21, and Mahial Sran, 20, both of Fremont.

Emergency crews responded last week to calls for a water rescue near Yellow Bank Beach, north of Santa Cruz. Cal Fire said the women were believed to have been sleeping near the Keyhole, a natural archway used to reach the beach, when the tide came in and swept them into the water…
