UC Berkeley scholar who overcame incarceration and foster care dies in crash

A memorial is scheduled Tuesday for Paloma Foster, a UC Berkeley Regents’ Scholar and campus advocate whose path from foster care and juvenile incarceration to public policy work made her a prominent voice for students seeking second chances.

UC Berkeley’s Underground Scholars community announced Foster’s death in a social media post Monday, saying it was mourning a “beloved community member.”
