Wet start, dry finish for S.F. Pride Weekend

Bay Area skies will brighten as the weekend progresses, with the weather anticipated to flip from overcast and drizzly to sunny and warm.

A potent plume of atmospheric moisture will sweep across the Bay Area on Friday, making for mostly cloudy skies and a chance of drizzle. If this were midwinter, the Pacific moisture would probably be accompanied by a nearby low-pressure system to lift and condense the water vapor to rain. But the main storm Friday will be well to the north, over the Pacific Northwest, as is typical of late June.

Still, this is an unusually powerful system by early summer standards. Despite being far away from San Francisco, it should still provide enough energy to squeeze out some showers in Northern California. It’ll also bring strong winds and extreme fire danger to the interior West.

Showers are most likely late morning through early afternoon Friday along and north of Interstate 80 from the Bay Bridge to Tahoe, including Napa and Solano counties. True rain isn’t expected elsewhere in the Bay Area, but conditions could still be damp from persistent drizzle, most likely on the west side of San Francisco, the East Bay hills and Santa Cruz Mountains…
