San Francisco’s La Doña to play hometown show with friends

La Doña has expanded her sound on her sophomore record, “Corrientes,” and is celebrating the feat with a hometown show.

The San Francisco singer-songwriter, whose real name is Cecilia Peña-Govea, is best known for blending rich traditional Latin American musical forms with more contemporary beats. Her latest project is her most immersive and self-assured work yet, spanning genres such as cumbia, reggaeton, salsa, electronic and bachata. Released in April, the 16-track record was a collaborative effort between La Doña and more than 40 artists across five countries — a feat that only deepens the record’s musical atmosphere.

She’s now set to perform tracks from the record, whose Spanish name translates to “currents,” at the Chapel in the Mission District on July 16, a concert that will also feature performances by fellow Bay Area artists Mxka and Louie El Ser…
