(KRON) — San Francisco city officials are searching for answers following a public transit failure that brought the city to a standstill on July 4. Despite assurances of “carefully made plans,” public transit experienced widespread delays, cancellations and gridlock, leaving many commuters and celebration attendees stranded.
City leaders had encouraged residents and visitors to use public transit for days leading up to the holiday celebration. However, when July 4 arrived, extra public transit shuttles could not reach their destinations or return, nor could regular buses. People were told to walk and those who drove faced hours-long waits, with Waymo vehicles contributing to their own gridlock by stopping in place.
Liz Le, a commuter and Fourth of July attendee, experienced the gridlock firsthand. Le noted that “planning on the website at SFMTA is pages and pages and it looked so good on paper, but it was not implemented at all. In fact, probably the opposite, right?”…
