San Francisco sees surge in electric scooter injuries over July 4 weekend

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — First responders in San Francisco say there was a slight uptick in calls for service this Fourth of July, and while there were several serious injuries related to illegal fireworks, the biggest increases were in electric scooter injuries.

“I do know that we saw in about a 40-minute period, 15 different victims of electric scooter collisions of some sort,” said Dr. Christopher Colwell, the Chief of Emergency Medicine at San Francisco General Hospital. “Granted, we’re a busy trauma center, but that was far busier than we are used to in a period, in a short period of time.”
