Mayor Daniel Lurie called the transit delays that followed San Francisco’s fog-shrouded Fourth of July fireworks show “unacceptable” and said the city must make changes before Fleet Week brings another large crowd to the waterfront in October.
His comments, made in an interview broadcast by ABC7 on Wednesday, were Lurie’s clearest acknowledgment yet that the city’s transportation plan failed many people who tried to leave the Golden Gate Bridge fireworks show. Thousands of spectators faced long waits for buses, packed streets and gridlock that stretched late into the night after the 15-minute display.
“Well, first we had a very safe event on Saturday night,” Lurie said. “Over 100,000 people came, and I really am grateful to our public safety officials for making sure that public safety was a priority.”…
