A three-alarm fire heavily damaged the former estate of industrialist and Kaiser Permanente co-founder Henry J. Kaiser, months after the sprawling property sold for $5.6 million.
The fire broke out shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday at the sprawling mansion in Lafayette, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
Firefighters arriving at the property found heavy flames at the rear of the roughly 14,000-square-foot home. Crews launched an interior attack and laid nearly 1,000 feet of hose because the estate’s long driveway and limited access made it difficult to position fire engines near the house, authorities said…
