San Francisco’s North of the Panhandle neighborhood will soon lose a major grocery store, leaving residents worried about whether the vacant site will become a nuisance and whether the closure will hurt nearby businesses that benefited from foot traffic generated by the retailer.
The Lucky store, located at 1750 Fulton St., is set to close Sept. 11, making it the latest in a string of Bay Area grocers to shutter.
Lucky closed its Bayview location, which had been the neighborhood’s only major grocery store, in 2025, and the Fillmore District lost its Safeway earlier that year. A Whole Foods in Mid-Market closed in 2023…
