A San Mateo County jury awarded $33 million on Tuesday to twin 11-year-old girls whose parents were killed in a 2022 crash caused by street racers.
The verdict bookended a three-week trial in which a civil jury concluded one of the street racers, who was then 17, was liable for the crash by driving at speeds reaching over 100 mph on a road where the speed limit was 35 mph. The jury also found his parents responsible because they knew he had sped in the past.
