Man accused of killing classmate in S.F. warehouse at 17 will be tried as adult in rare move

A young man who was five months away from his 18th birthday when he allegedly lured a classmate to a San Francisco warehouse and bludgeoned him to death will be tried for murder as an adult, a judge ruled Tuesday.

San Francisco Superior Court Judge Anne Costin’s decision follows a weeks-long hearing to determine whether the defendant’s case would be transferred to adult court or continue through the juvenile justice system.

Her ruling marks the first time a San Francisco judge transferred a youth from juvenile to adult court in more than a decade.
