APD Finds Stolen Property in Stolen Vehicle

Alameda Police Department (APD) officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle on Lincoln Avenue and Grand Street just after 6 a.m. on Monday, August 17, and found more stolen items inside.

According to an APD report on Facebook, the owner of the vehicle had outfitted it with multiple discreetly placed location devices which, combined with APD’s Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs), enabled officers to monitor the vehicle’s location in real time and follow its movements.

Patrol officers believe the suspect may have stopped at multiple locations after stealing the vehicle, potentially committing additional crimes along the way, the report stated. Once the suspect realized APD officers were closing in, they attempted to hide the vehicle in a residential neighborhood—but that ploy didn’t work.

Officers found the stolen vehicle and discovered thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen professional-grade tools, along with burglary tools, theft devices, and narcotics inside. APD is currently in the process of returning the stolen items to their rightful owners…
