Muni’s campaign to get all riders to pay their fare has become spectacularly literal.
That much was clear when digital “fare required” signs started flashing on the front of buses, sometimes obscuring the line number or destination sign. It’s one element in “a menu of improvements we’ve rolled out across the system,” along with ramped-up enforcement and educational materials on discount fare programs, said San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency spokesperson Erica Kato.
The signs appeared in August, when the city transit system rolled out a series of service changes and leaned into its “Fares for Our Future” initiative.
