A 36-year-old man was arrested in Oakland after Salinas police investigated the reported disappearance and severe assault of a Bay Area teenager, according to KSBW. The suspect, Shiloh Stuart, was booked into Monterey County Jail on charges including human trafficking, pimping and pandering, criminal threats and attempted homicide. The allegations have not been resolved in court.
Police said the investigation began after the teen, who had been reported missing and considered at risk, called 911 from Salinas at about 1 a.m. on Sept. 10. She told dispatchers that she had been severely assaulted by someone trafficking her, KSBW reported. Officers found her, arranged hospital treatment and later returned her to her family’s care. Investigators pursued an attempted-homicide charge because of the severity of her injuries, the report said.
The U.S. Marshals Service helped locate Stuart, according to KSBW. Salinas police are seeking information about whether other people may have been victimized, but the department has not publicly established how long the teenager was in Salinas, whether anyone else was involved or whether additional charges will follow.
The arrest fits a broader enforcement problem, but not a proven local trend
