SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A new eight-story residential building is coming to Walnut Creek. In August the city’s planning commission gave the project the green light to move forward.
The project promises to bring 104 new homes to downtown Walnut Creek and, according to the city, it would be the tallest building in the city’s commercial corridor.
“This building even came about because of the state mandate, which allows for multi-year, dense buildings that are in a downtown area,” said Walnut Creek Mayor Kevin Wilk. “Now, especially because it’s close proximity to major transportation, that being BART, they’re able to build it to a certain height and then use affordable housing to also get additional density in there.”

The project will replace a parking lot at 1532 Mount Diablo Blvd. near Broadway Plaza.
It will also include more than 8,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. The project will include 14 units of affordable housing. The city says nine of those units would fall into the very-low income level and five at the moderate-income level…
