A pedestrian was struck and killed on northbound Interstate 880 in Oakland Friday night, and the California Highway Patrol is now investigating what led the person into the freeway’s traffic lanes. The crash happened just before 8:15 p.m. near 29th Avenue, shutting down two lanes for more than an hour during rush-hour recovery traffic.
CHP Sgt. Andrew Barclay said the pedestrian was walking in lanes of traffic when the collision occurred, according to The Mercury News. The vehicle involved in the crash remained at the scene, Barclay said. Additional details about the incident, including the identities of the pedestrian and driver, were not immediately available Friday night.
Lanes Reopened Before 10 p.m.
The two right northbound lanes of I-880 were closed for the investigation until about 9:45 p.m., according to the same report from the Mercury News.
