One of the Bay Area’s most popular bike rides, which contains a stretch of roadway where dozens of collisions involving cars and cyclists have occurred, is about to become much safer with the opening of a new paved riding trail near the Golden Gate Bridge.
By the end of the month, northbound bicyclists on the eastern sidewalk of the bridge heading to Sausalito will be able to use the new trail to bypass Alexander Avenue, a downhill stretch of potholed roadway that the Marin County Bicycle Coalition calls “the most dangerous mile in Marin.”
