San Francisco’s Chinatown put a modern spin on a 3,000-year-old tradition Saturday, with opening day of the Autumn Moon Festival featuring a K-pop dance contest in addition to the traditional processions, performances and mooncakes.
The family fun began with a parade and ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a lion dance and martial arts performance from the Yau Kung Moon Kung Fu Sports Association. An afternoon highlight was the K-pop dance contest, in which solo performers, duos and groups of up to eight people demonstrated their choreography for prizes and bragging rights.
