Teenage girl, suspect ID’d in 1969 Oakland cold case

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland Police Department and the FBI announced on Thursday the name of a teenage girl strangled in a hotel bed in 1969.

OPD Chief James Beere identified the woman as Joanie, a 16-year-old girl, whose body was found at the St. Louis Hotel in Oakland 57 years ago on Oct. 2, 1969.

Until now, she had never been formally identified.…
