Connie Chan calls for SF Dem Party chair to resign

A day after San Francisco Democratic Party Chair Nancy Tung apologized for the party’s endorsement of Manny Yekutiel, Supervisor Connie Chan has called on her to resign.

Chan, an elected member of the 24-person San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee’s progressive minority, said that under Tung’s leadership, the body has “lost all of its credibility” in the wake of Yekutiel’s endorsement.

Chan, who is running for Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s congressional seat, is the first elected member of the Democratic Party board to call for Tung’s resignation.

Tung has given no indication that she will step down, and removing her would require a majority vote of the committee; her moderate bloc holds the most seats. In an interview Monday, before Chan’s call for her resignation, Tung said she was unaware of any efforts to strip her of her chair position.
