Lightning strikes detected off California coast during wet winter storm, NWS reports

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a cautionary alert as lightning activity has been detected approximately 275 miles offshore of the San Francisco Peninsula.

Satellite imagery reveals a cluster of lightning strikes, prompting heightened awareness for residents in the San Francisco area.

As of the latest radar update at 6:10 AM, NWS emphasizes that the lightning strikes are part of a broader weather system.

Heavy rain associated with this system, detected offshore, is expected to move inland through 7 AM. In addition to the heavy rain, the NWS reports that several lightning strikes have been observed, creating an electric atmosphere.

The GOES Satellite has been instrumental in capturing and monitoring these lightning strikes off the Central Coast during the Wednesday morning hours.
