San Francisco Mayor London Breed announcing Tuesday that the City’s public safety efforts are yielding strong results with crime in 2023, dropping year over year. The overall crime rate last year was at its lowest point in the past decade. The drop is attributed to decreases in property crime, car thefts and retail theft. Violent crimes are also below pre-pandemic levels. Breed points to prioritized enforcement and zero tolerance for drug dealing and drug users that makes neighborhoods and businesses unsafe. Breed says the city’s work around public safety is making a difference, but there’s more work to do.
